The relationship between exercise attitudes, exercise consumption demand, and amount of exercise
Main Article Content
Exercise attitudes and exercise consumption demand are critical to health promotion. This study explored the relationship between exercise attitudes, exercise consumption demand, and amount of exercise to enrich the “attitude–behavior” model of physical exercise. We used the Exercise Attitude Scale, the Exercise Consumption Demand Scale, and the Physical Activity Rating Scale to investigate the exercise attitudes, exercise consumption demand, and the amount of exercise of 1,227 urban residents. Our results showed that the eight dimensions of exercise attitudes were positively correlated with the four dimensions of exercise consumption demand and the amount of exercise, and the four dimensions of exercise consumption demand were positively correlated with the amount of exercise. In addition, exercise consumption demand played a mediating role in the relationship between exercise attitudes and amount of exercise. The above findings have positive implications for related policies such as health promotion as well as exercise consumption.
