Copyright Policy

Social Behavior and Personality: An international journal is a subscription-based scholarly journal and requires that authors transfer copyright of their work to the journal’s publisher (Scientific Journal Publishers Limited) when an article is published. This is done by the submitting author agreeing to the copyright notice during the submission process.

At submission, authors will be asked to check a box agreeing to the copyright notice, which states the following: “Author(s) agree that copyright of an article published in SBP Journal is transferred from the author(s) to the journal publisher (Scientific Journal Publishers Limited) upon publication.”

Our copyright statement is as follows: “Copyright [year], Scientific Journal Publishers Limited. All rights reserved. Reproduction in whole or in part of this publication, or by any means without the express written permission from the publisher, is prohibited.”

What does copyright mean?

Copyright refers to the rights of an owner of some intellectual property, such as a written academic paper, to decide what happens with that work. The author(s) of an academic paper will initially own the copyright, and have the rights to, for example, distribute, publish, copy, or adapt the created work.

Why does my article’s copyright have to be transferred to the publisher of SBP Journal?

Although the creator of a work is typically the automatic copyright holder, if you decide to submit your manuscript to SBP Journal to be published and distributed by us, you need to assign us publishing rights so that we can prepare and manage your article. As author(s) you still get the full authorship credit, and you keep the personal rights to use your published article as you wish. For example, you could personally distribute copies to other colleagues, or use the published article in your own classes or course materials.

SBP Journal’s principles of article distribution

Our founding editor’s vision is to make social psychology research available to everyone. We want your work to be visible to a global audience, so while we require third parties to request permission to reuse or reproduce a published article, we will generally grant permission if a full and accurate citation to the original article is included. We also allow authors to deposit the PDF of their published article in an institutional repository without any embargo period.

Exceptions for open access articles and advance online publication

SBP Journal also allows for the publication of open access articles when this option is requested by authors. For all published articles with closed access, copyright lies with the journal publisher and all rights are reserved. However, an exception is made for individual articles that are published open access, to which we attach a CC BY license for rights of reuse and distribution. Please read what the CC BY license allows at the Creative Commons website.

Some authors choose to use Ingenta Connect’s Fast Track service, to receive advance online publication of their article. This makes a final PDF proof of the article available to view, with an active DOI, some weeks or months ahead of official publication. In these cases, transfer of copyright to the publisher of SBP Journal takes place at the time the PDF is uploaded to Ingenta Connect.
